Eastgate’s story begins in Aachen. Former Siemens engineers
Dr. Paul Mathias and
Christian Dowideit had built MAT Traffic to support the intelligent transportation industry.
As their work with Siemens grew, they needed more engineering capacity without losing the quality and discipline their projects demanded. They turned to
Tuan Nguyen, a senior developer and solution architect already working with MAT Traffic.
Tuan then reconnected with
Ha Bui, an old secondary school friend who was building FinTech platforms in the United States. The four shared the same idea: create an engineering organisation in Vietnam that would work as part of the German team, not simply supply developers from a distance.
In 2014, they founded Eastgate Software in Hanoi. Siemens Mobility became the first client. As clients saw the quality of the work, the company expanded from intelligent transportation into FinTech, enterprise platforms, manufacturing and AI. The Siemens relationship that started the journey is still going strong.

Most workdays begin at VCCI Tower in Hanoi. They might include a design review with colleagues in Aachen, a whiteboard session for a German client or a late-afternoon handover to Tokyo.
Outside the project work, there are company events, technical meetups and the occasional trip to the beach. Different offices and time zones are part of daily life, but the team works as one engineering organisation.
Eastgate’s leadership combines Vietnamese engineering and operational strength with decades of European experience in intelligent transportation and mission-critical systems.
The company is still led by people who helped build it. They remain close to the architecture, delivery decisions and client relationships behind each engagement.
