We’re In The Era Of AI

The era of AI has officially taken center stage in the C-suite, with CEOs increasingly viewing AI not just as a tool for efficiency but as a core driver of business transformation, according to the 2025 Gartner CEO and Senior Business Executive Survey. AI is now essential to building dynamic operating models and people strategies that foster adaptability and long-term growth. 

Unlike previous years where AI was focused mainly on cost reduction and product innovation, today’s CEOs are embedding AI into broader operational frameworks. Key areas slated for AI-driven automation over the next three years include logistics, new product development, and contract management. However, only about one-third of CEOs currently have business models fit for an AI-driven environment, leaving two-thirds at risk of falling behind as machines gain greater autonomy to act and decide independently. 

A major focus is on integrating AI with workforce planning. Sixty-eight percent of CEOs are developing strategies to blend human labor with AI agents and robotics. Priorities include transferring repetitive tasks to AI systems, aligning human-machine workflows, and aggressively upskilling employees to leverage AI technologies. Furthermore, more than half of CEOs plan to use AI to de-layer middle management, reducing decision-making friction and expanding managerial capacity. 

The shift demands significant upskilling at all organizational levels-including the executive tier. CEOs identify AI skills gaps across their C-suites, surpassing those seen during earlier waves of digital transformation. 

As AI becomes intertwined with enabling technologies like IoT and digital twins, the business landscape is evolving toward an era of autonomous operations. CEOs acknowledge that future competitiveness hinges on mastering AI deployment and maximizing human-AI collaboration, signaling a pivotal transformation in corporate strategy and workforce design.
