The environmental footprint of AI-generated content, even for lighthearted applications, raises serious sustainability questions. 

Beyond energy concerns, the trend stirs ethical debate over data usage and copyright. Critics argue that the AI systems enabling these viral moments often draw from copyrighted material without proper licensing. As PR expert Jo Bromilow notes, even seemingly harmless AI-generated memes should evaluate through a lens of conscientious digital responsibility. 

The user experience also highlights AI’s limitations. BBC journalist Zoe Kleinman, who tested the trend, encountered challenges with output quality, personalization accuracy, and content moderation. These shortcomings underscore that while generative AI offers creative opportunities, its results can be inconsistent and energy intensive. 

As AI becomes embedded in digital culture, the trend illustrates both its democratizing appeal and the growing need for ethical guidelines. The AI doll craze, though entertaining, serves as a timely reminder that even playful innovation must be balanced with sustainable and responsible AI practices.
