Three ways GenAI and data streaming are gamechangers

As cyber threats grow increasingly sophisticated, the integration of generative AI (GenAI) and real-time data streaming is emerging as a powerful strategy for modern cybersecurity. According to insights from iTNews Asia, organisations across Asia-Pacific are leveraging AI to detect, analyse, and neutralise cyber threats before they escalate—transforming both response times and threat intelligence. 

A key development is the shift toward real-time threat detection and automated incident response, enabling organisations to identify anomalies as they occur. For instance, Singapore’s GovTech is using GenAI-driven analytics to flag abnormal activity across its Smart Nation infrastructure, enhancing adaptive security and helping prevent data breaches. In tandem, regulatory efforts such as the Shared Responsibility Framework are mandating real-time fraud detection in financial institutions. 

Behavioural analytics is another critical application. By establishing behavioural baselines, AI systems can detect insider threats or compromised credentials in real time. Financial institutions, for example, use GenAI to monitor login times and data access patterns, identifying suspicious activities instantly and reducing the risk of economic damage. 

A third frontier is real-time threat intelligence sharing across national borders. AI-powered platforms, like the ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, enable the seamless exchange of threat data among regional governments. This has proven especially vital in identifying Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) such as the Tetris Phantom attack uncovered by Kaspersky Lab in 2023. 

As GenAI enhances both offensive and defensive capabilities in cybersecurity, speed and adaptability are paramount. By embedding AI and real-time data streaming into core security operations, businesses can build resilient, responsive, and collaborative cyber defense ecosystems. The future of cybersecurity, experts suggest, lies not only in AI tools but also in robust investment in infrastructure, governance, and skilled talent.
